Foxy, First Mate to the Snake

I am a HUGE FNAF fan. I’ve only played the first game, and never got past Night 4, but for the longest time I obsessed over them. I loved it all; the atmosphere, the lore, the at the time unique inability to fight or run – all of it. (Well, apart from the jumpscares, but that’s because I startle easily.) I especially loved the animatronics; mechanical or not, how often do you get anthropomorphic animals in horror games?

Foxy was always a favorite; beyond being a fox, I always loved how different dealing with him was compared to the others. Whether having to check on him with a camera, flash him with a light while avoiding a small child with a sign, or try to stop him from assembling himself in your office, he’s always been interesting! Not to mention the weird kung fu cutscenes in Ultimate Custom Night; man, that game went bonkers!

It sucks how little there is of Foxy hypnotized. Hopefully, this helps change that!Foxy hummed to himself as he used his hook to whittle away at a broken floorboard. It was going to be a parrot when he was finished; he was getting good at this! Not long yet, and he’d be moving on to scrimshaw; now that was booty fit for a pirate!

The only question was, should he salvage supplies from the suits, or go for a guard?

‘Course, that second one would have to wait; management hadn’t found a new night guard since that blasted bunny beat him to the one last week. He never got why they bothered; he and his friends could keep their home safe at night. Just yesterday, some teens had broken in; they’d been talked to, entertained, and shown the door, no harm done! (Not counting the one who’d smacked Chica with a crowbar; they were pretty sure he was just startled.) The staff could probably save on cleaning; maybe put some of it towards getting him repaired!

…Aye, and maybe pigs would start flying.

Still, the steady stream of guards made for a good time; and it left the chance that one of them would be HIM. It probably wasn’t happening anytime soon, but something about suffering security guards warmed his nonexistent heart all the same. For the time being, it was fine by him if they kept sending staff to the slaughter; they didn’t even give them a Freddy mask anymore. Good thing, too, he still couldn’t convince anyone that guard hadn’t been Freddy.

…Including Freddy, weirdly enough.

That had been an interesting conversation.

The sound of a creaking door and a series of thuds snapped the fox from his thoughts. Had some scurvy dog broken in? (He hoped it was kids again; it was no secret he loved the little landlubbers.)

Foxy bolted backstage, sliding to a stop in seconds when he saw an open door. That was a storage room; none of them had gone in there since they realized there were no spare parts or anything else interesting. The pirate stepped through the door, eye peeled and ears perked as he stalked through a corridor of boxes; cramped spaces made his skin (or whatever ed for it) crawl, but he wasn’t leaving some purple monster to prey on children.

Just ‘round the corner and – there! He saw movement!

Foxy screeched as he charged the shadow. What were they doing here?!

The shadow yelped, and before it could react, Foxy had it at hookpoint. The pirate sighed in relief; it was just a snake. Not a thief, not a killer, not a ninja. Sorry ta scare ye, ye creepy little critter.

To Foxy’s shock, the snake responded; he was one to talk about being creepy!

The mechanical fox gave a shocked reply: How was he talking?!

The snake looked confused; he’d learned that ages ago. He assumed talking animals weren’t a thing around here?

Foxy shook his head no.

The snake sighed. Ah, well. That aside, he was sorry to sneak in; he was hoping to seek shelter from the storm and he’d found the back door cracked open. If he could just stay at least until it ed?

Foxy shrugged. Strange as a talking snake was, he didn’t have a problem with animals; as long as he stayed away from anywhere the kids went, the snake staying was fine by him!

The snake thanked him; his name was Kaa, by the way. He’d seen Foxy’s carving work while he was sneaking around; it was really something special!

The bot beamed with pride. He was happy to hear! He’d worked hard on those, coming up with designs, teaching himself to carve, keeping rats away from them; maybe Kaa could help with that last one?

Kaa chuckled. He’d love to! By the way, there was something special he could do, too. Perhaps he could show Foxy, see if it met his standards?

The fox nodded; he’d be happy to see what the snake could do!

Kaa grinned. Wonderful! All he needed was for Foxy to look him in the eye.

The pirate fox raised an eyebrow, but complied. He didn’t see-

Foxy’s jaw dropped as the snake’s eyes filled with ring after ring of the most beautiful colors he had ever seen. Every shine and swirl swept up his thoughts, his troubles, and sent them out to sea; no treasure could compare to the warm, fuzzy bliss he felt! Kaa called him closer, and Foxy stepped over with a smile, eager for more. His patch flipped up, his pupils shrunk to pinpricks, and the fox knew none of it, his furry head flooded by the snake and his spirals. Kaa’s tail caressed, Kaa’s coils compressed, and Foxy was reduced to a moaning mess; he had never felt so comfy, so cozy, so cared for in his life! Spirals filling his sight, the snake’s voice echoing in his ears, Foxy was in heaven.

He heard how clever he had been to stare into the spirals, how cunning he was to swear himself to the snake. How he would be a loyal crewmate to his new captain, trusting him with his thoughts, his troubles, his will. How his captain, his master, would take charge of his choices. How the pirate was free to be a precious pet, lovingly serving his master’s every need – food, entertainment, protection, companionship, anything – and how his master would cherish his cute, cuddly pet, in words, in coils, in colors.

Eyes full of color, coiled up to his shoulders, Foxy had never nodded faster in his life. He would obey, a pet to be proud of! Aye aye, Captain!

With a loving squeeze, a PING! rang out in Foxy’s head, and the pirate fox broke out into the biggest of grins.Kaa gave a warm smile as he caressed his pet’s cheek, the fox leaning into it. He had to it, as unnerving as Foxy’s first impression had been, now dreamy and docile, he was an adorable animatronic. He hadn’t lied when he said he was seeking shelter; he’d just neglected to mention how he’d had his eye on these mechanical cuties. Foxy was far faster than he’d expected; that would be useful down the line. Happily hypnotized, the animatronic would be fun when he was fixed up; the myriad of missing parts and poking pieces of metal made cuddling his pet a bit of a chore. It wouldn’t be a problem for long; he’d entrance as many as it took to get his fox fixed and onstage again. His hostility, however, would need work; whatever the animatronics had against security guards and adults, he doubted it would be good for their continued existence. He’d get to the bottom of it, no matter what.

And Foxy would bring him so many friends.
