Grip - raven of literature

Grip was a female raven and the pet of Charles Dickens (the famous author). Grip was beloved by Dickens and was allowed to roam the Dickens house at will. As ravens will do, Grip developed an impressive vocabulary. It is said Grip's vocabulary inspired Dickens to include a raven in his 1841 book 'Barnaby Rudge'. And that is how Grip made her first literary accomplishment. Edgar Allan Poe was a reviewer at the time and gave 'Barnaby Rudge' a glowing review in 1841; especially the part of the raven. Unfortunately, Grip developed a taste for paint and she would strip paint off furniture and even drink from paint pails. She died in 1841. The grieving Dickens had Grip taxidermied and mounted in an impressive and elaborate glass case. Grip, and her case, was hung above Dickens desk until Dickens died in 1871. Dickens was said to like Grip looking down on him while he wrote. Grip, in her glass case, was sold at Dickens' estate sale. After changing hands, she was donated in 1971, as part of a Poe collection to the Free Library of Philadelphia. Grip, in her glass case, resides in the library's Rare Book Section to this day.
Besides being a character in a Dickens book, Grip had another prominent literary accomplishment. She inspired Edgar Allan Poe to write the poem "The Raven' published in 1845. But Grip is not credited saying NEVERMORE.
