I wanted to do something in theme, this time, and, I decided to try my hand at Remembrance Day (or Veteran's day in the USA I believe)
It's not exactly the best in term of details - mostly because I rushed the end (colouring in, background, helmet and rifle) - but still quite an enjoyable piece! The background definitely adds that mood - the darkened, gloomy sky, with barren, rolling dirt hills.
I did actually colour the body of the German Shepherd in - but I decided to cover it up with clothing - I could publish the one without clothing in the near future - if anyone wants it!
I decided to not add detailing to the uniform - as I didn't want to fully localize the focus on World War 1, but to broaden it to World War 2 and so on by doing it simplistically. I debated between doing a representation of modern warfare - or the usual theme to Remembrance Day - World War 1, but, in the end, decided on a simplistic approach. I'm sure the helmet is probably from the World War 2 era.
But, don't quote me on that! Because I don't know my military uniform or units, or guns, heh! But, because I'm Canadian, I did a little bit of delving into Canadian uniform.
There was more that I wanted to add - like a poppy or some other scenic material - but I didn't in the end, mostly due to being rushed, heh!
Although you can't really see it - they're supposed to be kneeling down - but I had some difficulty getting the posing right, so, it may look a bit janky, heh!
In the end, I really enjoyed how it came out - especially the colouring of the German Shepherd, and the background. And, the drooping face and ears - it really adds that immersion and emotion.
